How Genuine Bank Transfers Work
When you send money via NEFT or UPI, you always initiate the transfer—no one can pull money from your account without a signed mandate. If someone calls saying they need your OTP to "process a transfer to you", that is fraud.
Before Adding Any New Payee
- Verify the IFSC via Bank Utils or your bank's toll-free number
- Call the recipient at their known number and confirm the account number digit by digit
- Your bank may impose a 30-minute cooling period for new beneficiaries—this is a safety feature
- For large amounts, add as beneficiary first, confirm the name displays correctly via penny-drop, then send
UPI Safety: Three Rules
- You enter your PIN to send money. Anyone saying "enter PIN to receive" is committing fraud.
- A collect request is a request for you to pay. Never approve one from an unknown sender.
- Never share your UPI PIN with anyone—including family helping with your phone.
Keep Bank Details Safe at Home
Write your IFSC, account number, and MICR code on paper and store securely. Use this for pension, insurance, and government scheme forms. Bank Utils can verify these details without requiring you to log in anywhere.
