  1. Check the first 4 characters against the expired prefix list above
  2. Run the IFSC through Bank Utils—"not found" confirms it is deactivated
  3. Search Bank Utils for the same branch under the acquiring bank's name and city
  4. Confirm with the beneficiary via a new cancelled cheque
