Use Upi When Bank Details Are Missing Use Case

When UPI Is Your Only Option

You need to pay someone but only have their phone number or VPA like name@bank—no IFSC or account number. This is entirely valid for amounts under your bank's UPI limit.

Paying via Phone Number

Most UPI apps let you send to a mobile number. Enter the number, the app resolves the linked UPI account, shows the account holder name—review it, then confirm. If the recipient has not set up UPI with that number, the transfer fails. Check with them first.

Paying via VPA

Enter the VPA exactly as provided. The app shows the registered name before you enter PIN. Confirm the name matches your intended recipient. If it shows "VPA not found" or an unexpected name, contact the recipient to confirm the correct VPA before proceeding.

UPI Limits to Know

UPI per-transaction limits are ₹1–2 lakh (bank-specific). For larger amounts, ask the recipient for their IFSC and account number and use IMPS or NEFT instead.

Safety Checks

  • Always verify the name shown before entering PIN
  • Never approve a collect request from an unknown VPA
  • Save the UTR from your confirmation screen for reference
